Training Courses

Handgun Qualification License (HQL)

Course Description:

This course is designed to give the newer shooter and/or someone who has never picked up a firearm in their life the knowledge, skills, and abilities to be safe and responsible with firearms as well as have a better understanding of how they work, the basic laws regarding firearms and why training is so important. This course also fulfills the training requirement for your Maryland HQL.


Pre-requisites: No prior experience required.


Class Overview:

  • The safe firearms handling rules and why they are important
  • How to safely store your firearm
  • Basic principles of personal security inside and outside the home.
  • The different types of handguns and how they function
  • The different types of ammunition
  • The fundamentals of marksmanship
  • How to load, unload, and fire common types of pistols and revolvers on

Maryland + Multi-State Wear & Carry and FREE HQL

Course Description:

This course is a mandatory requirement for residents and non-residents applying for an initial Maryland Wear & Carry Permit.

Military veterans who qualify for Maryland’s training exemption are not required to complete the full 16-hour Wear and Carry training course; however, participation is strongly encouraged. While military experience provides valuable firearms training, this course focuses on the legal, financial, and personal responsibilities that come with carrying in a civilian environment.


Students will also receive the Maryland Handgun Qualification License (HQL) certification at no additional cost.


Training includes 16 hours of classroom instruction conducted over two days, followed by a live-fire qualification session.


Students must achieve a minimum score of 70% during qualification.

Multi-State Permit Options:

This course also provides guidance for obtaining additional carry permits, including Florida and Pennsylvania permits, where applicable.


Reciprocity laws may change. Students are responsible for verifying applicable 

state laws.


Policy & Disclaimers:

  • Students must attend the full 16-hour course and qualification.
  • Late arrivals may forfeit registration; please arrive 15 minutes early. 
  • Cancellations within 72 hours and no-shows will forfeit registration.

  • Students are responsible for range fees. A $50 fee will be assessed for failure to show.


Requirements:

  • Must be 21 years or older
  • An applicant between 18 and 21 years of age may only be issued a wear and carry permit to possess a regulated firearm required for employment. 
  • Bring a qualifying handgun in safe working condition.
  • Rental firearms may be available through the range if needed.
  • Missed or failed qualifications require re-qualification during a future course ($50 fee applies).


Course Completion:

Successful students will receive:

  • Maryland Wear & Carry Certificate
  • Maryland HQL Certification
  • Qualification Score Sheet for Maryland State Police submission

Basic Firearms Familiarization & Safety

Course Description:

This is a 2.0-hour course designed for the person with little or no firearm experience, where students review safety rules  and safe operation of firearms; learn to disassemble, clean, and

reassemble their firearm, mechanics and fundamentals of shooting; and demonstrate marksmanship principles on the firing line with live ammunition.  


Pre-requisites:

No prior experience required. Students are required to bring the following to training:

  • close-toe shoes
  • hat 
  • eyes/ear protection (can provide if needed)
  • firearm (can provide if needed, but it is recommended you bring the firearm that you want to learn about)
  • 100 rounds of ammunition

Whether you are looking to improve speed, accuracy, firearm handling, situational awareness, or defensive shooting techniques, training sessions are customized to help you build confidence, proficiency, and safe firearms skills for personal protection and real-world application.

  • Once payment is confirmed, you will receive a call to schedule the class and discuss your specific goals and areas of focus so the instructor can prepare appropriate training exercises.
  • Training does not have to be all at once. If you purchase a multiple-hour package, you may use the time as you wish after coordination with your instructor.
